Day 1: Reimagining How We Care for Ourselves & Others
Monday, March 15th 11:00 am – 1:30 pm

Speaker: Dr. Amit Sood, CEO Global Center for Resilience & Wellbeing; Professor of Medicine, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine

Session Description: It is going to take a long time and a lot of work, investment, and care to help our communities heal and rebuild. Each of you will play a key part - but you need healing and care too. To help our communities rebuild - we need to make sure we're taking care of ourselves and each other and building resilience.

Dr. Sood will use cutting edge research on the biology of wellbeing to help us understand different approaches to resilience. We'll dig into the evidence to understand how to make resilience and wellbeing accessible to all, and how to make sure we have the tools we need to support us through the long recovery and healing ahead.

Day 2: Reimagining Anti-Racist Organizations
Wednesday, March 17th 9:00 am – 11:30 am

Speaker: Dr. Joyce James, President and CEO, Joyce James Consulting

Session Description: The blatant injustice and violence of the past year has opened a lot of eyes. Human service orgs will continue to play a key role fighting for justice and addressing the impact of the systemic racism oppressing our communities. But we also have to look at our own role in perpetuating, and supporting racist systems. What does it take to build anti-racist organizations and dismantle white supremacy in human services?

Dr. Joyce James will help us hold up a mirror to ourselves and our organizations. We'll go way below the surface to understand how we might be, unconsciously, sustaining or perpetuating racial inequalities in the design and delivery of our programs. She'll help us recognize the relationships the exist between the 'helping systems' we operate within, and how those systems can repeatedly produce disparate outcomes for the same vulnerable populations.

Day 3: Reimagining How Human Service Organizations are Valued
Friday, March 19th 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Facilitator: The Theater of Public Policy

Panelists:

Antony Bugg-Levine, CEO, Nonprofit Finance Fund
Julie Sweetland, Senior Advisor Frameworks Institute
Rehana Absar, Impact Director, Alliance for Strong Families and Communities
Susie Brown, President, Minnesota Council on Foundations

Trista Harris, President, Future Good

This past year has made absolutely clear how critical our social safety net is, but also how little understood and valued our sector’s role in maintaining it is. Human service orgs are instrumental in building a community’s strong foundation and a strong human service infrastructure is critical to support our communities as they begin to rebuild their health and wealth.

We need a better framework to make sure our role, and our expertise is fully understood and appreciated by funders, by our government partners, and by the public. Each of our panelists brings a unique perspective to bear on this issue. We'll tackle this challenge from all sides and use our understanding to build a case for human services that cannot be ignored.
